| | In order to be the best you have to swim the best. This is exactly what Okemos did when we scheduled a meet against 2 of the very best teams in the state. Birmingham Groves has won D2 States in each of the past 4 years. Holland was 2nd to Pioneer in D1 last year, and has now dropped down to D2 with the new division alignment. While Okemos was beaten by both of these powers, the girls held their own... |

| | Coming off a second place finish last weekend the team faced a tough field. With 1 win and 1 loos on friday and 2 tough losses on staurday the JV team finshed in 6th place. Holding tough teams through three of four quaters goal for goal wasn't truly reflected in the final scores. Back to back tournament weekends typically take there toll on young teams. Okemos fans gave great support to the team, especially the water polo boys team(fresh off their own great win... |

| | The realignment of the divisions this year kept Okemos in D2, but brought down a large number of excellent former D1 teams into D2. The result is D2 is the power division and the cut off times to make the state meet are extremely tough. Before the year started it looked like we might end up somewhere between 15th and 20th in the state. However, based on our early season performance, Okemos is now... |

| | Sluggish start for the JV boys culminated into a 12 to 12 tie in the forth with seconds left in the game. A flurry of shots and pressure by Okemos late in the forth forces a ball under call against the Dexter Goalie (Hey Adam rember how that can happen) providing a 5 meter oportunity for Okemos with a single second left on the game clock. SCORE! and put a 13 to 12 Win in the books for Okemos... |

| | Chieftains 131 Trojans 55. At this point in the season you don't necessarily expect fast swims due to the continued heavy training, but surprisingly we got some tonight. Lydia Roth is finally starting to put it together. She swam... |

| | The CAAC Swimming League Title is determined by equally weighting the dual meet portion of the season and the league meet finishes. Continuing the streak since the inception of the CAAC League, Okemos went undefeated again with a perfect 6-0 dual meet mark. Holt took second with a 5-1 record and Grand Ledge took third with a 4-2 dual meet mark. At the league meet this last weekend Grand Ledge pulled... |

| | At the beginning of the year, the girls set out to win the CAAC again and to finish in the top 15 at the D2 State meet. The realignment from 3 to 2 divisions loaded almost all the top teams with the exception of Pioneer into D2. The cut times reflected this change making the D2 meet the most difficult to qualify for. We still managed to qualify a large group of 9 girls to swim and dive at the 2007... |

| | Last Wednesday evening, Okemos won their 7th consecutive Waverly Relay Meet. The 50 point margin of victory was the largest in recent memory and perhaps the largest in the history of the meet. It was evident from the stands that the girls' hard work over the summer with CAST puts them much further ahead of last year's team at the same point of the season.
In the 12 team field which included all... |

| | In what many predicted would be a close Okemos victory instead turned into a blow out. The Grand Ledge coaches have done an outstanding job the past few years turning a once dormant program into a competitive team year in and year out. There is no doubt the Grand Ledge girls will have another great taper and swim "lights out" at the League Meet, but tonight it was all Okemos and... |

| | The Okemos girls ran out of gas today in their 3rd big meet in the last 5 days. The final result of the meet was not a complete surprise since Holland carries a #2 state ranking, Groves carries a #5 ranking and Okemos carries a #8 ranking. | | At the beginning of the year the Okemos Chieftain girls swimming and diving team set some goals to win the Waverly Relays, go undefeated in dual meets, win the CAAC League meet and finish in the top 10 at the State Meet. The last goal was fairly ambitious since the majority of the very best teams in the state compete in a loaded D2 field. The girls really started preparing for the season... |

| | The Chiefs won the meet over the Falcons in businesslike fashion winning every swimming event, taking 2nd in 7 of the 9 individual events and taking 3rd in 9 of the 12 total events. This is the most depth I have ever seen on an Okemos team and several of the girls were sick and did not even make the trip.

| | Billed as the D2 regular season meet of the year, the meet lived up to expectations as none of the three teams gave an inch. As expected, Holland's strength at the top proved to be the difference as the Dutch won 7 of the 12 events but perhaps their final margin of victory was much closer than expected. The nailbiting battle was to see who would come out on top between Groves... |

| | The Okemos team traveled to East Grand Rapids to compete in the always fast Pioneer Invite. Unfortunately Amelia and Lauren were off on recruiting visits so the lineup had to be juggled, and the team finished behind EGR, AA Pioneer, Jenison and Battle Creek. The format puts 4 heats of each event together and each bracket is scored separately and then combined at the end to determine the... |

| | It was a difficult yet rewarding night night for Okemos head coach Patrick Saucedo. His Okemos High School girls squared off against many of the club girls he coached at Spartan Swim Club. In short he was able to enjoy good swims regardless of which team they came from. The atmosphere was light at the pool as many of the girls on both teams are friends through club swimming during... |

| | In a battle between the top team in the CAAC Blue against the top team in the CAAC Red, the Chieftains came away with the clear cut victory. These two teams had not met in a few years so it was good to resume the series.

| | Both teams came into the meet with undefeated conference and overall dual meet records but only one could make the claim when the night was over. Half of the CAAC title is determined by dual meet records and the other half is determined by final finish in the League Championship meet. | | The fastest team in Okemos history capped off the season in fine style by capturing 2 state titles, setting a state record, placing all 3 relay teams in the top 8 and demolishing 3 varsity team records. While the 1980 team won a Class B State Title, the competition in the lower division was not comparable to the powerhouse teams now competiting in the current toughest division--D2. The... |
