10-15-09  Okemos 139 Everett 33
Text:
The Chieftain swimmers were off for a week from competition but swam well after a full week of morning practices.   Okemos winners were:

200 Medley--Mariya Smith, Chloe White, Andrea Dantus and Laura Kruger
200 Free--Emily Laub
200 IM--Nicki Baron
Diving--Carolyn Wallace
100 Fly--Andrea Dantus
500 Free--Emily Laub
200 Free Relay--Kelly Schwaner, Andrea Dantus, Emily Laub and Mariya Smith
100 Backstroke--Saskia Moyer
100 Breaststroke--Chloe White
400 Free Relay--Nicki Baron, Kenzie Krumm, Emily Laub and Kelly Schwaner

Carolyn was excellent on the boards tonight as she scored a season high 267.45(within striking range of the Okemos pool record).  Jenna Lademan, Carly Schaffer and Grey Smith were a strong 2,3 and 4(ex) with all 3 girls registering season highs as well.

Emily was our only 4 event winner but due to our no repeat rule does not qualify for "swimmer of the meet".  That honor goes to junior Chloe White.  Chloe won the 100 breast by nearly 6 seconds, achieved a season best in her IM and was  instrumental in leading our 200 medley relay team to victory.
Other notable swims were the 2-3 finish of Chelsea Kelley and Sam Crooks in the 200 free, Sophie Macaluso and Reychell Rozell's 3-4 finish in the 50 and Chelsea Kelley's and Gabrielle Pemble's 2-3 finish in the 500.

An interesting sidelight in the meet was Patrick lining up our top 6 IMers all in one heat of the 200IM in an exhibition race. Amelia jumped out to the quick lead after the fly and back portion of the race only to be passed by Madison, Kylie and Lauren in the breaststroke leg,  Lauren then shifted into high gear in the freestyle finale to secure a close victory over Kylie and Madison who finished in a dead heat tie for second, followed closely be Amelia, then Laura and Monique.  Any one of the top four would be a clear favorite to win the league meet in this event.  These 4 also swam 100IM legs during their 400 free relay.

Finally Mr. Batchelor deserves special credit for providing assistance from the scorers table to Amelia on the proper timing of her relay starts.  I understand lessons are available upon request.
