It was a difficult yet rewarding night night for Okemos head coach Patrick Saucedo. His Okemos High School girls squared off against many of the club girls he coached at Spartan Swim Club. In short he was able to enjoy good swims regardless of which team they came from. The atmosphere was light at the pool as many of the girls on both teams are friends through club swimming during off season training. While Okemos won every event, there were many great races. The Okemos victors were:
200 Medley--Lydia Roth, Madison Batchelor, Kylie Holden and Lauren Dudley
200 Free--Amelia Marsh in areas best time to date of 1:56.67
200 IM--Andrea Dantus
50 Free--Lydia Roth
Diving--Carolyn Wallace
100 fly--Kelly Schwaner
100 free--Kylie Holden
500 free--Amelia Marsh
200 free relay--Madison Batchelor, Emily Laub, Saskia Moyer and Lauren Dudley
100 back--Kylie Holden
100 breast--Madison Batchelor
400 free relay--Kelly Schwaner, Lydia Roth, Kylie Holden, and Lauren Dudley
Long time club teammate Tiffany Oricchio had a good night giving Amelia Marsh good races in both the 200 and 500. The Haslett "A" medley touched out the Okemos "B" medley by a mere .01. Carolyn and Louise Harder went back and forth all night until Carolyn securd the victory at the end. Same story with different results as Crystalle Izzo outpointed Jenna Lademan and Carly Schaefer for 3rd place. Kelly won the fly over her Haslett competitor by just one half of one second. Our 200 free relay came from behind to beat Haslett's foursome by less than a second(Lauren's anchor split--:24.8) and finally Mariya pulled out a close race to secure 2nd place points in the backstroke. Despite the lopsided result, Haslett is a much improved team and will dominate their CAAC lower division. Everyone on both teams seemed to have left the meet with a smile on their face some good matchups that will prepare both teams for future competitions. Hopefully this meet can continue after being off the schedule for many years.
The athlete of the meet for Okemos was senior diver and captain Carolyn Wallace. Carolyn has come out on the short end of the stick against some tough early season competition so it was great to see her get the victory against perhaps her top local competitor. As well as Carolyn dove tonight, you know coach Mike Wagner was taking mental notes of areas she can improve her performance in the upcoming Okemos invitational and MISCA competitions. A few other noteworthy swims were Laura's best 200 to date, Andreas IM and back swims, Sam Crooks and Chelsea Kelley in the 50, Grey Smith's diving, Nicki Baron's 100 fly and Emily Laub's 100 breast during the 100 free, and finally Saskia's 200 relay split and I believe her best breaststroke to date. Fun meet.
