The Okemos team traveled to East Grand Rapids to compete in the always fast Pioneer Invite. Unfortunately Amelia and Lauren were off on recruiting visits so the lineup had to be juggled, and the team finished behind EGR, AA Pioneer, Jenison and Battle Creek. The format puts 4 heats of each event together and each bracket is scored separately and then combined at the end to determine the overall champion.
Okemos did not have a first place finisher in the meet, but we did have several girls/relays place in the top 3 of their heats.
In the most competitive "Blue" division, the 200 Medley Relay team of Mariya Smith, Madison Batchelor, Kylie Holden and Laura Kruger finished 3rd. Madison Batchelor finished 3rd in the 200 free and 100 Backstroke, Kylie Holden was 2nd in the 100 Breastroke(our top finish) and the 400 free relay team of Lydia Roth, Madison Batchelor, Kylie Holden and Laura Kruger took 3rd.
In the "Gold" division, Lydia Roth placed 3rd in the 200 freestyle, Kylie Holden was 3rd in the 50 free and Monique Pentecost was 3rd in the 100 free.
In the "Silver" division, Laura Kruger was 3rd in the 200 free, Andrea Dantus was 3rd in the 100 butterfly and Kelly Schwaner was 3rd in the 100 freestyle.
Swimmer of the meet goes to Andrea Dantus who has been bit by bit dropping time all season and had season best swims in both her butterfly and backstroke. In addition she had the best split on her team's 400 free relay. Other notable swims were Mariya Smith's 100 free and Sam Crooks' and Saskia Moyer's splits on their 200 free relay.
The divers were able to get their first 11 dive meet in of the season. I know they hoped to place a bit higher but it was nevertheless a learning experience. |
