9-17-09  Okemos 107 Waverly LC 76
Text:
It was a tough week of practice this week with the flu bug making the rounds but the Chieftains swam a solid meet in defeating a Waverly LC team that always competes hard.

The top Okemos relays all swam exhibition this evening but are setting themselves up for some exciting relay racing later in the year.  Okemos winners for the evening were:

200 Medley Relay--Mariya Smith, Monique Pentecost, Kelly Schwaner and Sally Yan
200 Free--Lydia Roth
200 IM--Kelly Schwaner
50 Free--Kylie Holden
Diving--Carolyn Wallace
100 Free--Laura Kruger
500 Free--Sally Yan
100 Back--Kylie Holden

Swimmer of the meet was a tie between Kelly Schwaner and Sally Yan.  Both girls were part of the victorious 200 medley team.  Kelly dropped 4 seconds off her previous 200IM time to touch out her Waverly competitor for the win in 2:31.56.  Sally also dropped nearly 3 seconds off her best time in the 500 to win in 5:53.5.

Emily Laub posted her best 50 time while still recovering from the flu.  Carolyn dove very well as did Carly, Colleen and Jenna.  Carly and Jenna are getting close to the 190 score needed in two meets to qualify for the MISCA meet.  I'm sure Marie Marsh will get the chance to swim the 500 again soon after learning she had an awful lot left when her last 50 was 4 seconds faster than the pace she held throughout the race. Laura had her best 100 from a flat start and a 26.0 anchor on the 200 free relay.  Let's get healthy girls.  We've got the best D2 regular season meet in the State coming up next Saturday at MSU against Holland and Groves.
