| | The fastest team in Okemos history capped off the season in fine style by capturing 2 state titles, setting a state record, placing all 3 relay teams in the top 8 and demolishing 3 varsity team records. While the 1980 team won a Class B State Title, the competition in the lower division was not comparable to the powerhouse teams now competiting in the current toughest division--D2. The... |

| | The Okemos team added another chapter to their rich swimming tradition Saturday with a dominant victory in the CAAC League Meet Championship. Okemos scored 35 of their 36 entries into the meet en route to what is believed to be a record 580 total points and a 235 point victory over their next closest rival Jackson. The coaches and swimmers take pride in the difficult workout program... |

| | On Senior Night at the Okemos pool, it was only fitting that the seniors led the way. In all likelihood this year's group of seniors will go down as the single best class ever to pass through the tradition rich program. After the honorary ceremonies the girls went to work on trying to erase a couple long standing pool relay records. The 200 medley team of Lauren Dudley, Madison... |

| | Unfortunately there was no official at the Sexton pool so the meet resulted in a forfeit victory for Okemos. The good news was that both teams agreed to swim the meet anyway just to give the girls a chance to see what they could do. Since there are no official results I can't post winners but Okemos did have some excellent swims by Kenzie Krumm in the backstroke, Nicki Baron in the fly,... |

| | Both teams came into the meet with undefeated conference and overall dual meet records but only one could make the claim when the night was over. Half of the CAAC title is determined by dual meet records and the other half is determined by final finish in the League Championship meet. Okemos assured itself of the dual meet title with a hard fought victory over the Vikings. Jackson... |

200 Medley--Lydia Roth, Madison Batchelor, Lauren Dudley and Amelia Marsh--just off pool record time!

| | In the toughest division in swimming, the Chieftains are drawing mid-season recognition for the type of year they are having. Okemos is current sitting in a two-way tie for 5th with Midland Dow and behind Mercy(1), Holland(2), Seaholm(3), and Groves(4). The top 4 teams at state take home trophies so that is certainly one of the goals this team is shooting for. Yes it is exciting to... |

| | It was a difficult yet rewarding night night for Okemos head coach Patrick Saucedo. His Okemos High School girls squared off against many of the club girls he coached at Spartan Swim Club. In short he was able to enjoy good swims regardless of which team they came from. The atmosphere was light at the pool as many of the girls on both teams are friends through club swimming during... |

| | The Okemos team traveled to East Grand Rapids to compete in the always fast Pioneer Invite. Unfortunately Amelia and Lauren were off on recruiting visits so the lineup had to be juggled, and the team finished behind EGR, AA Pioneer, Jenison and Battle Creek. The format puts 4 heats of each event together and each bracket is scored separately and then combined at the end to determine the... |

| | As of Tuesday 10/6/2009, I have taken it upon my self to name Mariya Smith as an additional captain to the 2009 swim team.
Mariya has demonstrated excellence in leadership over the last month, epically during the last few swim meets.

| | Billed as the D2 regular season meet of the year, the meet lived up to expectations as none of the three teams gave an inch. As expected, Holland's strength at the top proved to be the difference as the Dutch won 7 of the 12 events but perhaps their final margin of victory was much closer than expected. The nailbiting battle was to see who would come out on top between Groves... |

| | It was a tough week of practice this week with the flu bug making the rounds but the Chieftains swam a solid meet in defeating a Waverly LC team that always competes hard.
The top Okemos relays all swam exhibition this evening but are setting themselves up for some exciting relay racing later in the year. Okemos winners for the evening were:

| | The Chiefs won the meet over the Falcons in businesslike fashion winning every swimming event, taking 2nd in 7 of the 9 individual events and taking 3rd in 9 of the 12 total events. This is the most depth I have ever seen on an Okemos team and several of the girls were sick and did not even make the trip.
Event winners were:
200 medley relay--Lydia Roth,... |

| | The Okemos girls swim team, fans and parents bid an emotional goodbye prior to the start of the meet to Senior water polo captain Adam Nevells who died in a tragic car accident the week before. Adam was well liked by all who crossed his path and his memory will live on forever.
It was very difficult for the girls to come back and swim fast after the moment of silence for Adam but... |

| | For the 8th straight year the Okemos Chieftain girls walked away with the championship. Coaches, swimmers and parents always enjoy this traditional start to the season. It gives everyone a chance to see where their team stands relative to the local competition in an exciting relay format. On their way to victory, Okemos won 6 of the 9 events.
The girls had a goal to break... |
